Confidence with Yoga
by Cathy Keenan
There
is nothing more beautiful and sexy than someone with confidence. Just
by walking and standing straighter you will begin to notice a change of
state.
Confidence - freedom
from doubt; belief in yourself and your abilities;
[noun] a feeling of trust (in someone or something)
The practice of yoga promotes happiness and
well being that leads to a better way of life. You are able to move with
purpose and confidence and make better decisions in your life.
Tadasana Urdhva Hastasana -
Mountain posture with arms stretched up
Mountain posture is the foundation for all of the standing postures and
improves posture, stability and confidence.
• From a standing position, bring the feet hip width apart, parallel.
lift up the toes, spread them wide and place them back on the floor. Feel
your weight evenly balanced through the bottom of each foot, not leaning
forward or back.
• Pull up the knee caps, squeeze the thighs and tuck the tailbone
under. The legs are straight, but the knees are not locked back.
• Inhale and lift out of the waist, pressing the crown of the head
up towards the ceiling, feeling the spine long and straight.
• Raise your arms above your head perpendicular to the floor. Stretch
your arms and fingers.
• Exhale and drop the shoulders down and back. Gently press the
chest/sternum towards the front of the room.
• Stretch your arms further from your shoulders keeping them parallel
to each other. Extend your wrists, palms, and fingers toward the ceiling.
Feel the stretch along both sides of your body.
• Exhale relax the shoulders down from the ears while still reaching
the crown and fingers up.
• Breathe and hold for 4-8 breaths or 20-30 seconds. Breath evenly.
• Some schools of yoga teach this pose with both feet together.
• Props: The wall will help you align your body correctly.
• Do not practice this posture if you have stress-related headaches.
The practice of yoga is a practice of life.
"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We're afraid."
"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We will fall!"
"Come to the edge."
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.
~ Guillaume Apollinaire, 1880-1918
